Nodding......

# 25/03/2017 at 20:37 TheNotSoBigCheese (Moderator)

Do you nod to other bikers? I do. I have noticed recently though that a lot are not nodding back! Couriers don't seem to nod back to me nor do most people on cruisers. Are there any groups you don't nod to? I will nod to everybody on two wheels including learners and scooters. The only time I won't nod is if I'm going somewhere like a biker cafe and there are tons of bikes one after the other, I kind of do one long nod haha

Yep, same as you I nod to anyone or anything on two wheels. Like you I have noticed the practice seems to be in decline which is a shame. I think we'll loose something if this acknowledgement of a shared experience dies out. Keep nodding guys, no matter what we ride were United in our passion for what we're doing.

I nod to everyone, even pizza delivery riders! Way I see it, it's the rider you're nodding to - not the bike...
Not everyone sees it that way though, you'll always get brand fascists and bike style fan-boys who have their heads stuck so far up their own back sides that they can't open their visors but on the whole other riders seem to nod back more often than not. Bizarre thing was the other night on my way home from work, I stopped at a set of traffic lights right next to another biker, I turned and nodded but even though I was looking right at him he just wouldn't make eye contact with me!

Always nod and other riders nod back if not the leg comes out to riders that have travelled.

I always nod except when I am in London and see a bunch of people on bikes/scooters... Too many nods... haha

A churçhhill dog maybe handy?

I always nod, 50cc, scooters, coppers. Not quads as they are God awful things.
It's a fellow biker/ride safe/nice ride thing for me and I will always do it.

I nod to all except scooters. I gave nodding to scooters a long time ago.

I nod to everyone. Well except scooters as I've never had a nod back. Being on L plates I frequently get ignored but hey ho their loss not mine :) we all have to start somewhere

I nod to everyone, unless I'm in the middle of doing something else, like filtering or leaning into a corner. Most people nod back, and if they don't, I assume it's because they're not looking at me because they're concentrating on something else. I don't take it personally - life is too short.

I Always nod ( if safe to do) ..it shows respect ! Which in today's world is not shown enough .

# 19/06/2017 at 20:25 jp123

@Alijarratt - I agree about not nodding the quads, they're not bikes and they're not ridden by bikers! Anything that has more than three wheels doesn't count.

# 20/06/2017 at 21:57 Bowlin

I nod to everyone on two wheels (even when I'm in the car sometimes - Doh!) if you don't nod back you normally get called a Twat (which if I've forgotten I have the intercom on means I get a jab in the back from SWMBO). Keep on noddin people!

# 22/06/2017 at 00:25 Shiney

So, as well as the Nod and the 'leg-wave' for general greeting, what other biker specific waves are there? Are there any special waves for things like 'slow down, coppers ahead' or 'lots of traffic'?

Haha Steve, that's funny!

Shiney - the only other one I have heard of is tapping the top of your helmet means there's Police or speed van ahead....
