Riding in the Dark and Rain

OK, so I got home about an hour ago after riding my 25 mile commute through shXXXy Argyll rain in the dark on unlit A roads. Having not ridden much in these conditions, I have got to say I'm fairly annoyed at the handful of drivers who insist on trying to ride pillion without an invitation! I'm not quick in the dark and wet on shit roads, and I suspect that I am not alone.....
Most drivers are obviously ignorant to the fact that riding in those conditions is pretty difficult. It's probably best described as riding into a black hole whilst being waterboarded, with headlights shoved right in your grid. At the same time, tip-toeing round corners praying that you don't wash out.
It HAS made me realise however, that I will need to get out and do this more often so that I don't poo myself so much! I'm still not sure how hard I can push it in the wet and get away with it.
What are your thoughts on wet weather riding? Am I being a big bender?

I ride a fair amount in the dark and the roads round here are all unlit country roads. The thing that I am most paranoid about is wildlife running out in front of me. Only had a rabbit try it's luck so far on the bike but only a matter of time for a fox, badger or deer. Run over 2 badgers since I have lived here in the car, thank f*ck I wasn't on the bike!

When I first rode in the dark I could see nothing at all when cars were coming towards me apart from their headlights and just hoped for the best haha. Now I that I have done it more I don't panic so much and find I can actually see a bit more so it's not so bad. But like you I am slow in the dark and wet, just not worth pushing yourself too far out of your comfort zone is those conditions, that's what I think anyway.

My eyesight isn't as good as it used to be,so my first foray onto an unlit road in the dark & rain I crawled along at under 30 MPH.The bastid in the BMW that glued himself to my number-plate didn't help me see any better either, even when he used his main-beam....all that did was totally blind me so I pulled over & let him pass. That was when I noticed the KTM tends to throw road sh*t up in front of me that then coats the headlight in a slimy film & reduces the lights effectiveness by about 80%(it's like trying to ride unlit roads on a sidelight)To cure this problem is easy, just maintain a higher speed than 30 MPH but that requires me to "borrow" some much larger gonads. lol

Haha, it can be scary stuff when the weather is crap and you're on little unlit country roads
