First big bike?

Hey guys, hope you’re all well after this horrible weather!! So I passed my theory first time in January (don’t ask how) haha anyway I’m 23 in August so plan on keeping my CBR125R until I’m 24 to save me doing my test now and being restricted etc so plan on doing my test next year. Anyway the big question...best ‘big’ bike? Ideally I don’t want to get a 300-400 and then want to get something bigger some months after. I love the look of the old R6 but think that may be too much bike so what about the CBR600RR? I’m honestly not a stupid rider and not throttle happy at all, rather take it slow but yeah any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hey Alice good to see you're still with us haha. Congrats on passing the theory test :-)

Wow you have so many options! So I am guessing you like the full on sports bikes then? The difference in performance from a 125 to any 600 is absolutely crazy and takes a bit of getting used to! Personally I wouldn't really advise a 600RR as a first big bike, it's a very quick bike and not ass forgiving as something a bit less hardcore like a ZZR600. Having said that if you are VERY careful with it and stay nice and gentle on those controls then you will be OK, just take it easy.

My first big bike was a ZZR600 and I loved it. It scared the crap out of me though haha. Other popular first time sports/sports tourer big bikes are the CBR600, SV650 GSXF600 (although not as pretty as the others in my opinion!)

Cheers for your replies :) haha yep still kicking ;D the options are endless lol. I’m keen on the CBR500r but reviews mention power delivery is a bit sluggish so I don’t want to end up getting bored in a year? I guess it’s just a case of trying things and being careful.

Test ride a few and see what you think :-) Take a CBR500R out and then compare it to a 600 but yeah be careful haha I wonder what people are comparing the 500 to when they say power delivery is a bit sluggish? If they have just come off a 700+ then it will feel that way. Going from a 125 to the 500 would be a nice upgrade on power!

I've been having similar convosations on what would be a bigger bike. The ER6 is one that always comes up. A few have also mentioned the Yamah XJ6/ XJ6 Diversion.
